Chess is a game of intellect, calculation, timing and making the right decisions from the comfort of your home. It holds immense popularity worldwide. From children to the elderly, everyone enjoys this fascinating indoor game that demands extraordinary focus. Chess is a staple in annual sports competitions in both government and private institutions. Winning or losing depends on how you position the rook, bishop, knight, king, queen and pawns. Days turn into nights during intense battles on the black and white chessboard. A single careless move can lead to a “checkmate.” As the saying goes, “the knight’s move” is critical.

Every chess piece holds unique power, yet in chess, the queen is more powerful than the king. Globally known as “chess,” this game is played in palaces, mansions, clubs, neighborhoods and families, becoming increasingly popular. However, most chess players lack formal training. Against skilled players, untrained ones often fall behind. Thus, learning chess is essential to compete effectively in national or international tournaments.

Recently, Biplab Kar, a data scientist from Bankura associated with the rapidly growing American company Brillio Technologies Private Limited has established a modern institution dedicated to chess learning Global School of Chess. The academy offers comprehensive online chess camps worldwide, detailed on their website gschess.com. The academy features certified chess instructors, champion students, live interactive classes, personalized learning plans, and a safe learning environment. Now aspiring players can join camps organized not only in Kolkata, but also in other cities of West Bengal or participate in online programs to learn chess.

In 2024, a remarkable achievement was made by Anish Sarkar, a young boy from Kolkata and a student of Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua. At just 3 years and 8 months old, he secured an extraordinary FIDE rating of 1555, setting a world record as the youngest FIDE-rated chess player. He also had the opportunity to meet chess legends Magnus Carlsen and Viswanathan Anand at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament in Kolkata.

Co-founder and COO of the Global School of Chess Biplab Kar emphasized that chess is a timeless game beneficial for individuals aged 2 to 80 and beyond. He highlighted its role in enhancing concentration, memory and mental capabilities among students while helping combat smartphone addiction. Chess is also a powerful tool for improving mental health, addressing issues like anxiety, anger and stress. It plays a significant role in preventing conditions like dementia and Alzheimer’s, which are otherwise challenging to manage. With its ability to stimulate the mind and encourage strategic thinking, chess remains invaluable for people of all ages. More than just a game, it is a powerful medium to enrich life and can be learned at any age.
